The plant has a thick, fleshy stem and a swollen base, which stores water during periods of drought. The leaves are dark green, glossy, and oval-shaped, and grow in clusters at the tips of the branches. The flowers are trumpet-shaped, and can be pink, red, white, or a combination of these colors, and they bloom in the spring and summer.
